The moment you glance at Uriy Salamatin’s 1:350 scale model of the Nagato 1941, the detail catches your eye immediately. Hasegawa’s kit really allows for some impressive recreation of this historic battleship, and Uriy has done justice to every little aspect. The paintwork is smooth and clean; it’s actually kind of mesmerizing how the naval gray wraps around the structure. And speaking of structural details, check out those deck fittings and anti-aircraft guns. They really bring the ship to life in miniature form.

A little dive into history — Nagato was part of the Imperial Japanese Navy and was actually a flagship at Pearl Harbor. I always find adding a bit of historical context to models helps create a deeper connection to the piece. Imagine what it would’ve been like, witnessing such a vessel moving gracefully through the ocean. Uriy captured the essence of this behemoth with a great balance of accuracy and craftsmanship.

The weathering on the model is subtle but very effective. It’s like you can almost feel the saltwater brine and the hard life of a battleship through those tiny streaks and washes. Just looking at it makes me wonder what Nagato’s deck would have seen during its prime.

I have to give props to Uriy for the meticulous assembly. It’s no small feat to keep everything aligned and to capture such complexity so cleanly. The rigging, in particular, is beautifully executed. I know how challenging it can be to get that just right.

Overall, what stands out most to me is the model’s balance of precision and storytelling — Uriy’s work here isn’t just about creating a miniature, it’s about resurrecting a piece of history. I really appreciate how he’s brought this iconic vessel into the present with such dedication.
