This model of the MPLATRK project 971 Shchuka-B, or what many know as the Akula-class submarine, caught my eye right away with its neat and tidy build. The clean lines and precision in assembly make it a real joy to observe. Aleksandr Afanasev did a fantastic job with this Hobby Boss 1:700 scale set. You can really appreciate the effort put into making everything look so sharp and precise; the balance on weathering and detailing is just right, giving it a polished finish without losing character.

Now, speaking of the real deal, this class of submarines has a pretty cool story behind it. From what I know, Akula-class submarines were built during the Cold War, designed to be exceptionally stealthy. The Soviet engineers focused on reducing noise to make these subs some of the quietest of their era, which is a fun fact that always stands out to me. They were stealthy enough to give their Western counterparts a run for their money!

In the end, what makes this model truly interesting is not just its meticulous build but also the history and intrigue behind the Akula-class itself. It’s a piece that sparks curiosity, both for model enthusiasts and those interested in the stories beneath the waves.
