I’m looking at these photos of Sergey’s build of the Grant Mk.1 model, and what immediately catches my eye is the weathering. The way the paint has been carefully chipped and worn gives it this authentic, battle-hardened look. It’s like the tank has rolled straight out of a dusty desert campaign. The subtle rust on the bolts and tracks, paired with those dirty treads, just adds to the realism. I can almost imagine the clattering of tracks over rough terrain.
As for the real-life Grant Mk.1, it’s a tank with quite a story. During World War II, the Grant was part of the North African campaign against Rommel’s forces. It had quite a unique design with its side-mounted sponson gun, which gave it a distinct silhouette compared to other tanks of its time. From what I’ve read, crews had a bit of a love-hate relationship with it — it wasn’t the most modern piece of equipment, yet it was reliable and tough when it needed to be.
What makes this model stand out is its character. Sergey’s attention to detail in capturing the essence of this historic tank makes it worth noting. It’s like a little snapshot of history, and that’s what makes these builds so enjoyable to explore.
