I recently got my hands on some photos of the Il-2 Zashchitnik Donbassa, lovingly assembled by Roman at a 1:48 scale from a Zvezda kit. The first thing that catches the eye is the weathering. It’s like Roman brought a piece of history right onto the workbench. The subtle dirt streaks and the slightly chipped paint give it that rugged, battle-worn look without going overboard. It adds a layer of realism that makes you pause and take a second, maybe even a third, look.

Did you know that the real Il-2 played a crucial role during World War II? Nicknamed the “Flying Tank,” it was one of the most heavily armored aircraft of the time. The pilot had a challenging job—these planes were known for their resilience, taking quite a beating while still holding their own in the skies. I find it fascinating how this model captures that same sturdy aura despite its small size.

Overall, this model is more than just a display piece. It’s a little piece of history with character and charm that draws you in. The attention to detail and the historical context make it a worthwhile addition for anyone interested in military aviation.
