Just looking at Igor’s Westland Whirlwind Mk I model in 1:72 scale is a treat for the eyes. The first thing that grabs my attention is how well the paint job is done. The camouflage is spot on and looks smooth, offering the perfect balance for this historic fighter. I appreciate the subtle weathering on the model, which adds a dash of realism without going overboard. The panel lines are highlighted neatly, which brings out the aircraft’s profile nicely.

Diving into the history a bit, the real Whirlwind was quite a unique bird in its time. Known as one of the RAF’s early twin-engine fighters, this plane was designed for speed and firepower. The quad cannons were meant to pack quite a punch! It’s fascinating to think about how this aircraft was part of the early efforts to gain air superiority during the war.

Back to the model, Igor’s attention to detail stands out, especially with the decals. They’re applied with such precision, aligning perfectly without any hint of silvering. The cockpit looks pretty well-done too. Even though it’s a small scale, you can sense the care put into assembling those tiny parts.

One thing that piques my curiosity — I wonder if Igor intended to depict a particular scenario or mission, given how clean the aircraft looks. Maybe this is a nod to its time when freshly rolled out of the factory.

Overall, what I love most about this model is the way everything comes together so cohesively. There’s a certain charm in the simplicity and cleanliness of it all, making it a delightful piece to admire. It’s these little engagements that remind me why I fell in love with model building in the first place.
