Checking out the Su-25SM3 “Grach” by Andrey Skurenok really gets me excited about model crafting. Right off the bat, the level of detail in this 1/48 scale model by Zvezda is impressive. The paint job is smooth and those markings are neatly applied, giving the plane a crisp, fresh-out-of-the-hangar look. The weathering isn’t over the top, yet adds a touch of realism with subtle shading around the panel lines, lending depth and definition to the aircraft’s rugged frame.

A bit of historical context makes it even more intriguing. The Su-25, known for its robustness, has been an essential part of many air forces. Designed primarily for close air support, this “flying tank” has seen numerous upgrades since its inception in the ’70s, continually proving its worth in various conflicts. I always find it fascinating how these models let us reflect on the evolution of real-world aviation.

The craftsmanship here is noteworthy. Andrey’s choice of colors captures the authentic camo pattern effectively, making it look like an actual operational aircraft. The clean canopy is something I can’t help but admire; it’s always a challenge to get the clear parts just right, and here it’s done with precision. The landing gear also deserves a mention for its intricate assembly, it’s those little details that make the model stand out.

Funny enough, I’m curious about the scale modelers’ debates on whether to go light or heavy on weathering for such a model. Is it better to showcase a pristine aircraft or one that’s seen its fair share of action? Both approaches have their charm, but here, the balance feels just right.

What pulls me in is the model’s overall presence — it’s the kind you’d imagine displayed prominently on a shelf, inviting you to take a closer look at every angle. The aesthetic appeal lies in its execution, where care and attention to detail transform it into a miniature tribute to a mighty aircraft.
