Looking at this Ki-100 model from Hasegawa in 1:48 scale, the first thing that catches my eye is the clean, precise lines and the admirable level of detail that the builder, bek, managed to capture. The paint job looks great, with a subtle weathering effect that doesn’t overpower the overall look. It gives the model a real sense of history, like it’s seen a few sorties but is still well-maintained. The detailing on the cockpit and panel lines is particularly impressive, showing a steady hand and attention to detail.

Now, a bit about the Ki-100 itself. This aircraft emerged during WWII as a quick adaptation of the Ki-61, a response to Japan’s engine shortages. It was a lucky break when the switch to a radial engine actually improved its performance, making it one of Japan’s most effective fighters late in the war.

Back to the model, the decals are applied smoothly, fitting naturally without any obvious signs of silvering. Bek has done a nice job integrating them into the paintwork. There’s a touch of flair in how the landing gear and the propeller are depicted — just the right amount of metallic shine to suggest wear without going overboard. It makes me wonder how this model would look in a diorama setting, perhaps on a makeshift airfield in the Pacific.

Thinking about the skill in this build, it’s not just the technical execution that stands out, but also the understated way bek tells a story through the weathering and details. It’s subtle but speaks volumes.

What I love most about this model is how it combines historical depth with modeling artistry. It’s a wonderful showcase of both the aircraft’s legacy and the builder’s craftsmanship, making it an absolutely enjoyable piece to explore.
