Taking a look at Andrey Serov’s 1:48 scale model of the I-16 tip 29, the first thing that grabs my attention is the slick paint job. The olive and black camo pattern really stands out, and it gives off that classic Soviet vibe. It’s clear that time was spent making sure the colors align just right. I also appreciate the subtle weathering; it’s enough to suggest this aircraft has seen a bit of action but hasn’t been through the wringer yet. The panel lines are well-defined, adding depth and making the model pop.

Speaking of the I-16 itself, this little aircraft has a fantastic story. Originally designed in the 1930s, it was one of the first low-wing cantilever monoplanes with retractable landing gear. From what I’ve read, it played a significant role during the early stages of World War II despite its small and almost adorable appearance. Some even nicknamed it the “Rata” or “Mosca” due to its unique look and maneuvers.

Back to the model, one detail that stands out is the careful application of decals. The red star is sharp, and everything aligns perfectly without any obvious overlaps. It makes me think about how important those small touches are to bringing a model to life. I really like the balance here — enough detail without overcomplicating things.

I get curious about the thought process behind these builds. Was this model intended to depict a specific moment in history, or is it more of a general representation? Either way, it’s a fun consideration while comparing it to photos of the actual aircraft.

Overall, what I enjoy most about this model is the way it encapsulates the spirit of a pioneering aircraft while maintaining a scale beauty. It’s compact yet loaded with personality — just like the real I-16.
