Looking at Chuck Davis’s 1/32 scale build of the A-20G Havoc from HK Models, the first thing that catches my eye is just how neat and tidy everything looks. The paint job is particularly well done; the subtle shades in the camouflage pattern give the model a nice depth, almost as if it could fly right off the shelf. And the weathering around the panel lines brings a real-world feel without being over the top—exactly what you want for this aircraft that saw some serious action during World War II.
Speaking of which, the A-20 Havoc was a bit of a workhorse back in the day. From what I’ve read, it was used by multiple nations and had roles ranging from light bomber to night fighter. You can almost imagine this model, with those big, bold American insignias, zooming through European skies during the war.
What really adds to the realism here are the little details. Check out those carefully applied decals. They sit so flush against the body of the model, it’s as if they were painted on rather than stuck on. Chuck’s choice in color for the cockpit interior also caught my attention—it’s vibrant yet still authentic, paying homage to the technical design without shouting for attention.
I have to give a nod to Chuck’s attention to detail on the underside as well. Flipping the model reveals some really nice shading that complements the overall look. It’s this kind of care and precision that can elevate a model from just a kit to a captivating representation.
I can’t help but wonder about the backstory Chuck chose for this particular aircraft. Was it inspired by a specific mission or unit? Either way, the execution leads my imagination to fill in the blanks.
What stood out the most to me was the harmony in Chuck’s build—where paint, weathering, and historical tribute all come together seamlessly. It’s these combinations that make the A-20G Havoc an engaging piece to admire and ponder.
