Taking a closer look at Gleb Vahnitskiy’s 1:72 scale model of the English Electric Lightning F.2A by Airfix, what immediately stands out is the fantastic paint job. The metallic sheen and crisp lines really draw the eye. From the smooth curves of the fuselage to the sharp angles of the tail, the details are well captured. I think the choice of colors makes it pop on any display shelf.
From what I know about the Lightning, it was the only all-British supersonic jet fighter capable of speeds over twice the speed of sound—a real beast of its time. This aircraft was primarily designed for intercepting enemy aircraft, a task it excelled in thanks to its climb rate and speed. Picture it screaming through the skies during the height of the Cold War. That’s some history right there.
Overall, this model stands out not just because of its finely applied paint but also due to the historical significance of the aircraft it represents. It’s a must-see for enthusiasts of aviation history and model-making alike, capturing both the essence of its era and the skill required to replicate such a notable piece of machinery.
